Ecofriendly wood adhesives from date palm fronds lignin for plywood

نویسندگان

چکیده

Utilization of lignin phenol glyoxal (LPG) resins was studied as a potential alternative for formaldehyde (PF) resins. Lignin extracted by alkaline pulping processes (kraft and soda) from date palm fronds (DPF) used an in LPG The isolated samples were characterized using complementary analyses that included Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) thermal stability, thermogravi-metric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Kraft (KLPG) soda (SLPG) also terms solid content, viscosity, gel time. Finally, physico-mechanical tests performed on plywood panels treated with different molar ratios results revealed 50% (w/w) KLPG resin resulted higher tensile strength (65.3 MPa) than PF (58.57 MPa), which potentially attributed to the amount phenolic groups compared lignin. Therefore, substitution DPF enhanced adhesive its chemical mechanical properties, enabling it produce more environmentally friendly wood adhesive.

Midribs of Date Palm as a Raw Material for Wood-Cement Composite Industry in Saudi Arabia

This study was carried out in 2011 to investigate the suitability of date palm midribs (Phoenix dactelifera L.) as a lignocellulosic material for the production of wood-cement composite panels, in addition to enhancement their compatibility with cement using various pretreatments and chemical additives. Materials used for this study were midribs of fronds of different date palm varieties availa...

Lignin‐Retaining Transparent Wood

Optically transparent wood, combining optical and mechanical performance, is an emerging new material for light-transmitting structures in buildings with the aim of reducing energy consumption. One of the main obstacles for transparent wood fabrication is delignification, where around 30 wt % of wood tissue is removed to reduce light absorption and refractive index mismatch. This step is time c...

Orchard Management for Decreasing Date Palm Bunch Fading Disorder

The date palm bunch fading disorder/disease is one of the greatest challenges faced by date palm growers. In the present study, the effect of appropriate orchard management on some qualitative and quantitative features of date palm bunch was studied. For this purpose, two orchards of cv ‘Kabkab’ with a history of previous incidence were selected in two districts of Bushehr province; Tangestan a...

Falling palm fronds structure amazonian rainforest sapling communities.

The senescence and loss of photosynthetic and support structures is a nearly universal aspect of tree life history, and can be a major source of disturbance in forest understoreys, but the ability of falling canopy debris in determining the stature and composition of understorey communities seems not to have been documented. In this study, we show that senescent fronds of the palm Iriartea delt...
